Jasmine Marie Lynn, is the epitome of what Young Women Of Distinction stands for...and is all about! Jasmine had a great future ahead of her and she was always pushing herself and others to be all that they could be. Jasmine was a 19-year-old sophomore and was the first in her
family to attend college until killed by a stray bullet while walking across
Clark Atlanta's campus, on Thursday, Sept 10th, 2009.She died with a 3.8 grade-point average and was an exceptional student.
Her mom, Constance Franklin, of Kansas City, said her only daughter was the life of the party. "She loved people," she said. "She loved people. And one thing about
her, she had Christ in her life. Determined to go to church every
Sunday." The word of Lynn's death was spreading quickly
through the close-knit hallway at Lincoln Prep where the 2008 graduate was a
basketball player and member of the ROTC. Sergeant Herman Brown worked with Lynn during her days in his ROTC program at
Lincoln Prep in Kansas City and the news is almost too hard to bear.
"Jasmine was a conqueror, mover and a shaker and a go-getter," Sgt.
Brown said. Clark Atlanta President Carlton E. Brown told
the crowd that Jasmine Lynn was an exceptional and irreplaceable student who had
deserved to be safe on his campus.
Spelman President Beverly Daniel Tatum said the school flag would be flown at
half-mast and a campus meeting was planned. Spelman College mourns Jasmine Lynn.
Here is a special Spelman Blog Tribute to Jasmine Marie. She is gone, but she will never be forgotten.
Here at Young Women Of Distinction, Jasmine Marie Lynn's memory will always be remembered and honored via our 1st annual award ceremony starting next year. Please feel free to sign our guest book and leave your personal thoughts there. They will be greatly appreciated.
